The 'salty' bill of floating TPPs in Vlora. €62.8 million

For more than a year, the floating generators located in the Vlora triport (Tigri 1 and Tigri 3) have been turned on to produce electricity. In total, only 92 thousand megawatts of electricity were produced by the end of November, despite the growing needs for consumption.

To meet demand, Kesh, in nine months, according to INSTAT data, has imported from abroad about 2.7 million megawatts from 1.9 million megawatts last year. According to calculations based on KESH auctions, it turns out that so far the energy import bill is about 222 million euros. While the price has fluctuated between 90-130 euros per megawatt.

Official figures provided by Report TV from the Albanian Power Corporation show that so far the cost of producing one megawatt in floating TECs is significantly more expensive, just over 151 euros.

According to data made available by KESH, 62.8 million euros have been spent so far on these 2 thermal generators. Specifically, the two companies with which Albania signed the agreement to bring the 'tigers' to Vlora, Excelerate Power and Renco, have been paid a total of 32,998,715 dollars.

The RENCO company has also received $14,893,200 for maintenance services. While fuel worth 15 million Euros has been purchased for their ignition so far.

The two floating platforms arrived in Vlora in September 2022, and were intended to cover 15% of domestic consumption needs, with a production capacity of 110 megawatt hours of electricity.
