Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced that the first 6 kilometers of the Tirana-Durres highway will be opened to traffic within December of this year.
"We are in one of the construction sites that are progressing better, to be honest, in all of Albania, which is the Tirana-Durrës highway construction site. We are in the second phase of this construction site. The first phase has a good, stable progress of 65%, while the second phase has 80% progress. Now the Tirana-Durrës highway, in the first 6 km, starting from Casa Italia, and up to the Kashari overpass, turns into a type A highway, with a crown of 32.5 m width. We have three lanes on both sides plus an emergency lane that makes it 4 lanes on both sides. The progress of the project is very good. So, the first phase is 65% progress and in the second phase 85%. That is, we hope to have delivered it for the end-of-year holidays, despite the fact that the contractual deadline is September 2026", said Balluku.
The Albanian Road Authority announced that it has begun preparations for the greening and urban decoration of this highway. Meanwhile, Balluku said that the decoration inside the "Shqiponja" tunnels will also be changed, since it is the main entrance to Tirana.
The first 6 kilometers of the Tirana-Durrës highway are being built by two joint ventures. The first 3 kilometers are being built by the joint venture of Bami shpk-Curri shpk, while the second 3 kilometers are being built by Elmazaj Construction.
