The government's adventure with Becchetti continues to eat up money from citizens' taxes. The Albanian government has disbursed 3 billion or about 31 million euros from the state budget, which will go as a capital injection for Albcontrol.
The money, which is being given to alleviate the difficult financial situation of Albcontrol due to the blocking of accounts by the Italian businessman Becchetti, is in fact direct financing of the 130 million euro fine that Albania received in arbitration.
Although the Prime Minister publicly pledges that Albanian citizens will not pay a single penny for the Italian businessman, in reality the opposite is happening and the money is being paid through disguised schemes. From granting state debts to direct capital transfers, the budget is paying down the last penny of the money blocked by Francesco Becchetti.
Initially, the Albanian government financed Albcontrol's difficult situation through state loans. These loans were sometimes provided by the Directorate of Road Transport Services and sometimes by the Albanian Investment Corporation. Now, the loans are being converted into direct budgetary financing. So the money is being taken from Albanian citizens and is going to cover Albcontrol's huge financial hole.
