In Salcë-Kozare of Kuçovë, 28 hectares of greenhouses and 60 hectares of agricultural land are still covered by water. Farmers say that the season's production has been completely destroyed, while livestock and poultry have died. The water reached up to 1 meter inside the greenhouses during the days of the floods. The level has now dropped, but all the agricultural crops that were in the harvesting phase have been destroyed.
"We are devastated. All the crops have been destroyed, like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers. We are demanding compensation from the state, otherwise we will go bankrupt," says a farmer.
Farmers are appealing for state aid, while the production cycle can only resume after 3-4 months, when the soil dries out.
"We need money to plant the greenhouses as soon as possible. We had just started production, so the losses are huge," they emphasize.
Farmers are demanding financial compensation for their crops, urgent food supplies for livestock, cleaning and repair of drainage channels, and finding a solution to the discharges from the Banja HPP, which they say is the main cause of the floods.
