The High Inspectorate for Declaration and Control of Assets and Conflict of Interest (HIDAKPKI) has fined former Minister of Agriculture Frida Krifca 3 thousand euros. The news was announced on the official website of the Administrative Court of Tirana, where the execution of the fine was requested.
According to the case notice, the fine was imposed on June 12 of this year and its reasons are set out in the law on the prevention of conflict of interest.
The announcement does not specifically reveal what conflict of interest the former Minister of Agriculture, who now works as an advisor to the Prime Minister, is talking about.
But the opposition has publicly accused Krifcë of benefiting from public funds through one of her husband's companies, Erti Lutaj. According to a public denunciation by the Democratic Party, Lutaj's company Lucom Projects has benefited from over 120 thousand euros from the Municipality of Tirana.
It is not known whether this is the reason why the HIDACCI fined the former minister, or some other case of conflict of interest related to her decision-making while she held the position of minister.
Ms. Krifca left her post as Minister of Agriculture after the scandal with European Union funds for Agriculture erupted. The European Commission decided to cut off grants to Albania due to corruption in their distribution, while Ms. Krifca was at the head of the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development.
