Albanian citizens are reacting to high fuel prices. Official data shows that Albanians are flocking to electric vehicles to escape the asphyxiating fuel prices, which place Albania among the ten most expensive countries on the planet.
The General Directorate of Road Transport Services reported that currently 82 percent of new vehicles imported into Albania are electric.
"During the period January-March 2026, 82% of registered 0 km vehicles are Electric Hybrid Plug-in, marking an increase of 14% compared to January-March 2025," said DPSHTRR.
According to more detailed data, the number of new fully electric vehicles registered in Albania in the first quarter reached 2,964, an increase of 202% compared to the same period last year.
"2,964 All-Electric vehicles registered for the first time, +202% compared to January-March 2025. Over 51.5% of total vehicles registered for the first time, +68% more compared to 2025," said the Directorate of Transport Services.
