56 students of the Security Academy were poisoned yesterday (May 6). After consuming lunch inside the Academy premises, the students felt unwell, had health complications and were sent to the Infectious Diseases Department of the QSUT.
The students affected by the poisoning have shown severe symptoms, such as vomiting and severe abdominal pain. After presenting to the hospital, they have received medical treatment, serums and then left.
The Security Academy has a contract with the private company Sori-Al, which provides catering services for 3 meals for students. The Sori Al company has Alma Tafan, the wife of Nikolin Jaka, president of the Tirana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as its administrator.
Nikolin Jaka had 50% of the shares from 2004 to 2007 in the company "Sori Al", which is now managed by his wife.
By the end of 2025, the Sori-Al company results as the winner of 75 public tenders, with a total value of 4.2 billion lek.
In December 2025, the Centralized Purchasing Operator led by Arlinda Pogaj announced the winner of the tender with a limit fund of 2.8 million euros for "Cooking and food distribution service for State Police employees, students and trainees at the Security Academy".
The service contract is for a period of 36 months (3 years).
In an official response, the police announced that they have arrested Kujtim Ballgjini, 52, and Kristjana Plaka, 23, respectively, chef and food technologist at the Sori-Al company, which was contracted to provide food at the Security Academy.
Citizen R. Ç., 35 years old, who works as a food technologist at this company, has been placed under investigation, while administrator Alma Tafani has been declared wanted.
Police Notification
"Yesterday, 56 students of the Security Academy were sent for medical assistance to the Infectious Diseases Department of the QSUT, who are suspected of being poisoned after consuming food on the premises of the Security Academy.
All students received the necessary medical assistance and have been discharged from the hospital in good health.
The Crime Investigation Specialists of Police Commissariat No. 1, following the investigative actions carried out under the direction of the Tirana Prosecutor's Office, in this case:
-arrested in flagrante delicto citizens KB, 52 years old, and KP, 23 years old, with respective duties as cook and food technologist at the company contracted to provide food at the Security Academy;
-referred the materials to the Prosecutor's Office where proceedings were initiated in the absence of the citizen R. Ç., 35 years old, with the position of food technologist in this company;
-They announced that the company's administrator, citizen AT, 52 years old, was wanted.
Work is underway to capture citizen AT, individualize and document the criminal responsibility of the citizens involved in this case.
The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, for the criminal offense of "Importing, producing, selling and storing food dangerous to human health or life." - the police announced.
Authorities have taken samples for laboratory analysis in order to determine the product that may have caused the poisoning.
