The media is full of information today about a "mega-operation" by the Durres Prosecutor's Office, which made a name for itself with the toxic waste scandal that was found all over Asia and then brought back to Durres. Today, the operation seems massive in the eyes of the public, as 30 or so arrest warrants are not a few, are they?
But what we are seeing today is something else. A new scheme where the meat is cooked and the skewers are not burned. Because an environmental scandal that alarmed even international monitoring agencies, results in us according to the investigation that was only done by a few tired directors and specialists of the port or the line agencies.
But when the scandal happened, the Director of the Port of Durres was Pirro Vengu and the Minister of Environment was Mirela Kumbaro. But as two people with immunity, of course the Durres Prosecutor's Office cannot investigate them.
The question is why one of the biggest hazardous waste trafficking scandals that tarnished Albania's image for months was investigated by a tired local prosecutor's office?
Did this Prosecutor's Office investigate the chain of responsibility to the end and if not why didn't it declare incompetence? Because what is happening today with the "superoperation" of the Durres Prosecutor's Office seems to be the new scheme for how corruption will be amnestied. For every affair where responsibility goes all the way to the top of the government, the work will be done by the district prosecutor's offices.
Their power certainly extends to the fakir-specialists or even the directors if you like, who take their orders from the relevant Pirrots and Mirelas. In conclusion, by today's standards, the administrative courts are to blame, they bear the punishment and "justice was done"!
How ironic, for Pirro Vengu and Mirela Kumbaro's ass today we set a new standard!
