The Albanian government will build a new prison in Kukës. The General Directorate of Prisons announced the signing of the contract with the consortium of companies that were declared winners in the tender for the design and construction of the Kukës prison.

A joint venture between Ergi and Lead Consulting will build the newest prison in Albania for a price of 522 million lek or 5.4 million euros. According to the contract, construction works will last 23 months and the prison will be operational from November 2027.

The tender for the construction of the Kukes prison was conducted through a restricted procedure. The limit fund was set at 528 million lek, while the contract was signed for a value of 522 million lek.

Albania has recently been building a series of institutions for the execution of criminal decisions, including a re-education institution for minors, while the country is facing massive school closures as a result of emigration.
