The family of Daniel Shima, former Deputy Director General of the National Agency for the Information Society (AKSHI), has reported to Police Station No. 1 in Tirana the loss of contact with him.
The last contact with the family was at 1:30 PM, when Shima informed them that he had been stopped by the Police and arrested. However, after the family made the relevant verifications, they saw that there was no stop or arrest under this name.
At this moment, he filed a report of his disappearance.
According to media reports, the police are investigating two leads, a possible kidnapping or a staged disappearance. Sources close to the investigation team are reluctant to share information.
At the National Agency for the Information Society, Daniel Shima is one of the highest-ranking officials of this agency, directly after the director Mirlinda Karçanaj.
In fact, Daniel Shima was until a few months ago the number 2 of the National Agency for the Information Society, but only until a few months ago, after the day his boss Mirlinda Karçanaj was summoned to the Special Prosecutor's Office, he was dismissed.
The head of the most important agency for the management and improvement of technology and information systems in Albanian state institutions was questioned for several hours on March 19, 2024 at SPAK premises and immediately after leaving there, she returned to the office and signed the dismissal of Daniel Shimë.
Police sources indicate that verifications have begun regarding the incident and that security cameras have been seized in the area where he is thought to have been last seen.
Shima was questioned by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) regarding investigations into tenders conducted at AKSHI during his tenure.
Investigations into the case continue, while the family seeks urgent clarification on his fate.
