OSHEE: Botox and dental clinics are billed at household energy prices

The Energy Distribution Operator says that a large category of businesses, mainly in Tirana, unfairly benefit from low electricity tariffs because they are billed as household customers. The Universal Service Provider, part of OSHEE, is conducting a campaign of inspections to identify these businesses, which, although they carry out commercial activities, are registered as household customers.

FSHU Administrator Algert Luzi says it has been noticed that a large number of new apartments serve as notary offices, accounting offices, dental clinics and aesthetic businesses. This phenomenon is related to old registrations and the lack of contract updates, while the buildings are used for economic purposes.

For this reason, FSHU has launched a verification process and calls on all businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals who carry out commercial activities to check and update their contract category. In case of violations by these businesses, penalties will be applied. Household subscribers who consume over 700 kWh are charged 9.5 lek/kWh, while businesses are charged 14 lek/kWh.

Following the findings, the tariff will change, and if the violations are repeated, punitive measures will be taken.
