Researcher Auron Tare calls for measures to be taken, up to and including imprisonment, regarding the abuses of construction on the southern coast, especially in the Bay of Manastir, which have also led to the destruction of archaeological heritage, by allowing the construction of a tourist village.
Speaking to "MCN Informacion" he stated that the authorities should not have allowed that there were archaeological ruins there that were identified in 2011 by the Institute of Archaeology and it was normally known that there were archaeological ruins.
According to him, it has been proven that there was concealment of documentation which paved the way for the construction of this resort.
"The resort is about 100 meters from the Dema wall, one of the most important constructions in the world, of which there are three in total, two are in Greece and one in Ksmail. This wall, built in the 4th century BC, has its own importance. A tower has emerged there, but it is not clear if it was just a tower, there were other ruins.
I don't believe it's just a tower. But even if it was just a tower, it shows the importance of the fortifications and the great strategic importance of the area. This could not be destroyed, especially since it was signed by the National Heritage Council and the Ministry of Infrastructure.
These institutions have paved the way for construction. The Albanian state has not lost anything, it has lost everything, but the problem is what the people, the nation and our history are losing, that is the big problem. The state is apparently helping to destroy these historical values.
It is proven with documentation that people who are paid to protect heritage, falsify documents to pave the way for these constructions.
In 2010, there was a rescue search by the Archaeological Service Agency, then by the Ministry of Culture, and a private firm hired an archaeologist who is now at the state university and made a very superficial observation, and this documentation was then given to the ministry, which allowed the work to begin.
The 2021 report does not mention the 2021 findings. It even states that when the report was made, excavations were done, excavators were brought in for excavations. A superficial report was made, simply to comply with the law.
There should have been a whole team there dealing with the report. The archaeological heritage has been destroyed there, anyone who passes by can see that it has become a mess. The Tirana and Saranda prosecutors should investigate this as a flagrant case of destruction of national heritage.
What is being done there is also being extended to the Butrint National Park, which is a UNESCO heritage. This is the heritage of generations to come, it does not belong to any businessman, nor to any prime minister, it belongs to future generations. It is no longer surprising, but the point has come where it can no longer hold back, the cup is being poured out.
"Measures must be taken to destroy cultural heritage. All areas, even protected areas, the law on protected areas was amended to pave the way for construction in protected areas. People must be put in prison, so that they are afraid. This is the solution. The rest are flowers and roses. People must be put in prison for what has been done."
