Although the number of tourists visiting Albania this year has marked a relatively low increase, the Bank of Albania says that the economy's income from this sector has grown at double-digit rates.
Newly published data in the Balance of Payments show that the Albanian economy benefited from tourism by 4.4 billion euros for the period January-September of this year. Compared to the same period last year, the income that Albania benefited from tourism has increased by 15.3 percent, according to the BoA, while the number of foreign tourists increased by only 6.3 percent.

This means that foreign tourists have spent more this year. Precisely from the cross-checking of data reported by INSTAT and the BoA, it results that for the 9 months a traveler who entered Albania spent an average of 430 euros during their stay in our country.
For the same period last year, the average spending figure for each foreign tourist who entered the territory of Albania was 398 euros.
Balance of Payments data show that for the whole of last year, Albania benefited from tourism by 5 billion euros. For this year, the trend of the first 9 months signals that the figure of income reported from tourism could approach the level of 6 billion euros.
But despite the increase in tourism figures reported by the BoA, consumer goods companies complain of stagnant sales and consumption.
