The Basic Medical Checkup Concession generated 2.45 million euros in net profits for its owners last year. Data taken from the official balance sheet submitted to the National Business Center show that Check Up's profits expanded by 34 percent last year, mainly thanks to reduced expenses.
According to the balance sheet, the concession company collected 730 million lek or 7.5 million euros (1 euro = 97 lek) from the state budget last year as a fee for medical check-ups of the population. While its total expenses fell to 492 million lek, including the profit tax paid.
The concession for basic medical check-ups of the population is owned by the company 3P Life Logistics. The latter is owned by two shareholders. They are the companies Marketing & Distribution with 80 percent and Trimed with 20 percent.
Marketing & Distribution is a company owned by Vilma Nushi, while Trimed is owned equally by Gentiana Peskhatari and Endrit Hido. The latter is Vilma Nushi's nephew, meaning the Nushi family owns 90 percent of the lucrative Check Up concession.
This concession has been under investigation for corruption by the Special Prosecution Office for several years. But while SPAK prosecutors investigate, Check Up's shareholders are making money. Even by withdrawing it from the company.
According to balance sheet data, the concession's two shareholders withdrew almost 2 million euros in dividends from last year's profit.
