Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku appeared today, October 31, at the SPAK premises where she is expected to be informed of the charges.
Balluku will be defended by his sister, Pamela Qirko, after he is accused of "violating equality in public tenders."
What makes the situation even more paradoxical is the fact that Pamela Qirko, before becoming a lawyer, was the chairwoman of the Independent Qualification Commission (IKC), the institution that used to dismiss judges and prosecutors for lack of integrity. With her signature, 56 representatives of the judiciary have been dismissed, while today she herself finds herself on the verge of a process where justice affects her family.
The investigations are being led by prosecutor Dritan Prençi, who is among the 136 prosecutors and judges confirmed in office through the vetting process.
Belinda Balluku is under investigation for the charge of "Violation of equality in public tenders". This development comes within the framework of investigations launched by SPAK into tender procedures in the institutions she has headed, following the arrest of several of her former subordinates in the ministry and the National Roads Authority.
Opposition leader Sali Berisha has denounced the threat that, according to him, Prime Minister Rama made to SPAK prosecutor Dritan Prençi, who is investigating Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. He said that Rama called him, while describing this as a serious act.
