The majority MPs approved in the Assembly Committees a legal initiative, proposed by the Socialist MP Erion Malaj, which removes digital infrastructure tenders from the National Agency for

Information Technology (NAIT) by transferring them to a new joint-stock company with mixed, public and private ownership. According to Malaj's draft, the new joint-stock company, which will have the exclusivity of tenders in the field of information technology, will be owned at least 51 percent by the state, while 49 percent of its shares may be in private hands.

Meanwhile, the National Agency for Information Security, now with a tarnished image from the explosion of the corruption and criminal organization file, will only have the duties of the authority responsible for the standardization, architecture, security, and oversight of e-government systems.

Opposition MPs opposed the bill and considered it to be motivated by the sensational investigations of the Special Prosecution Office, which revealed the existence of a structured criminal group at the head of the AKSHI, accused of controlling tenders worth tens of millions of euros for the state's digital infrastructure.

MP Jorida Tabaku requested an in-depth audit of over half a billion euros in procurements conducted by the National Agency for Information and Communications Technology (NAI) and raised the alarm about the security of sensitive data from the transfer of critical digital infrastructure to private management.

"This sets a dangerous precedent," said Tabaku, adding that the initiative also contradicts the European integration process and critical infrastructure management standards in EU countries.
