The Albanian Electric Power Corporation announced that it managed to sell 10,800 megawatts of energy this Tuesday at the agreed price of 16.57 euros per megawatt. In the auction announced the day before, KESH had put up for sale about 57,000 megawatts of energy, which is produced by the overflowing hydropower plants of the Drini Cascade.
But buyer demand has been minimal, forcing KESH to sell only 20 percent of the planned quantity at the almost free price of 16.57 euros per megawatt. The energy will be delivered on February 18-22.

Official data shows that KESH is facing a near-emergency situation in the Drini Cascade due to high flows and overflowing of the hydropower basins. A day ago, the Cascade began forced water discharges, which continued this Tuesday at high levels, causing flooding in the Shkodra area, according to the District Prefecture.
"The Albanian Electric Power Corporation (KESH) has announced that after close monitoring and assessment of flow management, controlled discharges have begun from the hydropower plants in the Drin River cascade: Fierzë, Koman and Vau i Dejës. Since yesterday afternoon, an increase in the levels of the Drin and Bunë rivers, as well as Lake Shkodra, has been observed," the Shkodra Prefecture announced through an official statement.
According to her, as a result of massive discharges by KESH, in the Oboti area, the presence of water has been identified mainly in agricultural lands, expanding the flooded area, without risk to homes until now, while the road axis connecting the village to the main road presents the presence of water of about 40-50 cm, making passage difficult for small vehicles.
