Just like during the price crisis of 2022, now that oil prices are soaring every day due to the war in the Middle East, Albanian citizens have found a solution.
They are buying fuel for personal consumption outside Albania, mainly in North Macedonia, due to lower prices.
News24 closely observed the situation at the Bllata Border Crossing Point in Dibër and in Qafë-Thane in Pogradec, where there is an increased flow of travelers heading towards North Macedonia, due to the price differences between the two countries, where a liter of diesel is sold for 92.5 denars or 144 lekë, while at retail points in Albania a liter of diesel is currently sold for 214 lekë. Gasoline in North Macedonia is being sold for 91.26 denars or 142 lekë per liter.
Compared to the retail price in North Macedonia, oil in Albania is sold about 50% more expensive and gasoline 48%. In Montenegro, a liter of oil is sold for about 1.5 euros and due to the increased demand from Albanian citizens for fuel, Montenegro has set a purchase limit of no more than 30 liters of oil, banning the sale of cans.
