The government will set reference salaries for doctors, nurses and all private health sector employees. The news was made public by the Minister of Finance, Petrit Malaj, during a public appearance together with the Director of Taxes and the Director of Customs.
"We have undertaken controls for the construction, tourism and hydrocarbons sectors for years and these initiatives have yielded concrete results. We have seen a significant increase in personal income tax paid and social and health insurance contributions. The medical and personal and aesthetic care sectors have been identified as high-risk and will be the subject of the tax administration's work in the coming months," declared the head of Finance.
The Director General of Taxes, Ilir Binaj, said that the health services sector counts more than 10 thousand businesses with over 45 thousand employees. According to him, all these entities will undergo detailed control, according to the model that was followed with construction.
"We will conduct audits for taxpayers who will continue to provide medical services, for about 10 thousand taxpayers and 45 thousand employees. On April 1, indicative salaries will be published. Then, audits will also continue for the sale of agricultural products," he said.
In parallel, the tax administration will also follow the short-term rental business, another sector that, according to the head of Taxes, has high informality.
"In the tourism sector, the focus has been on analyzing data obtained from Booking, where there were 7,000 properties for 80 million euros in revenue from reservations, and for 8,500 individuals and businesses on AirBnb with 40 million euros in revenue from reservations. We will conduct checks on taxpayers who have not declared their income correctly," said Binaj.
